On the penultimate day of our campaign, I am thrilled to wake up to a handsome contribution from the Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC), along with a variety of in-kind support from the national office in Toronto. A huge thankyou to Lisa Fitzgibbons and Adele Charlebois for getting on board the Doc Bus!

DOC represents Filmmakers

Until I resigned in March 2013 to focus on this project,  I was honoured to sit on DOC’s national Board of Directors for almost 4 years. I learned so much about the industry and the real issues facing the documentary genre at this time. That experience informed the very real need for Get on the Doc Bus. DOC does an fantastic job advocating for documentary filmmakers and the genre itself, in constant conversation and negotiation with government, CRTC, broadcasters and cable co’s. They provides a great connection space for documentary filmmakers, with regional chapters across the country. They’re currently advocating for documentary to be declared as Canada’s national art form…

Get on the Doc Bus represents Community Groups

Get on the Doc Bus aims to extend DOC’s filmmaker network to include the wide variety of community groups, arts orgs, cinemas and audiences that USE documentary to inform, inspire and call to action. While DOC is squarely focussed on representing documentary filmmakers, Get on the Doc Bus is taking a grassroots approach to developing an accessible network to represent those organizations and individuals and cinemas that put documentaries to use in community building and activism. My work with OPEN CINEMA has informed my understanding of this under-represented sector within the documentary genre and it’s time to connect the dozens (hundreds?) of dots across the country.

I look forward to ongoing collaboration with DOC to make this happen!

Help Make It Happen!

Meanwhile, we have less than 50 hours left on our Indiegogo campaign. If you haven’t already, please watch and share our video and please, contribute financially if you can. The world will be a better place if you do 😉
