2014 is off to a busy and exciting start!

In early January, the Canada Media Fund jumped on board the Doc Bus, offering financial support for Connecting the Docs, a series of multi-city hybrid screenings which have evolved out of OPEN CINEMA’s ongoing documentary offerings and my conversations across Canada in 2013.

I met photo of Stephane Cardin, VP, Industry and Public Affairs at CMF Stéphane Cardin, VP, Industry and Public Affairs (left) and his colleague Maurice Boucher, Director of Marketing and Communications at the CMF office in old Montréal last August. I am beyond thrilled that they were able to follow through with their promise of financial support for this project. Thankyou so much Stéphane, Maurice, and the Canada Media Fund!

Hybrid Cinema: Connecting the Docs

Using a variety of digital media and social media tools, these experimental live + virtual graphic for Connecting the Docs series= hybrid screening events will feature 3 recent Canadian documentaries, screened on the same day live in multiple cities, and streamed online (if possible). Documentary screenings will be followed by Livestreamed post-screening discussions and accompanying live and online audience engagement, using a variety of social media tools (such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Storify) to connect Canadians from different regions on the social justice topics addressed by the films.

Our first event on January 29 was a great success, featuring Millefiore Clarkes’ lyrical NFB documentary ISLAND GREEN with packed houses in Victoria, BC and Charlottetown, PEI, as well as a dynamic online discussion on Facebook, Twitter and via Ustream.  We had a reach of 93,000 on Twitter! And the whole transmedia conversation is archived on Storify. Read all about it here.
